It’s also about the brilliant classical scholar behind the poetry, whose laziness and arrogance prevented him from even gaining a Pass Degree at Oxford, and about his escape from genteel poverty to worldwide renown both as a poet and as Regius Professor of Latin and Greek at Cambridge.
